When I'm in XP and using Outlook Express at times if I have a lot to say I
have been using HandyBits Voice Mail instead of typing. It makes a small
file size 100 KB per minute, and works like a charm. Problem is it's not
Vista compatible or for Windows Mail. I have been looking for something to
use instead and haven't found anything. Has anyone seen something that
could be used instead of the Sound Recorder? I tried the Sound Recorder and
a 6 min message was 4.5 MB the HandyBits recorder would be 600 KB. Also the
receiving person doesn't need any special player to hear the voice message,
Windows Media Player plays them.

John,

I am brand new to this forum, and I share your problem with Handybits
on Vista. My wife is a Handybits freak with a group of ladies, one of
whom is constrained by a disability which prevents typing. My most
serious problem with going onto Vista is that I lost Handybits. I do
not see an answer to your question here on Vistahead. Did you ever
solve this problem?

Jim

The post did not receive any replies, it was made over 18 months ago:

Did you try contacting the company?

Your question was sent beyond Vistahead, so I saw it. I did a Google
search for:

Handybits Vista

You might want to have your wife check if any of the results look
relevant to that problem:

I'm not familiar enough with Handybits to tell, but it looks likely
likely that Handybits offers a variety of programs, most of which
are not relevant to that problem.

Also, some of these sites mention ware, which suggests that
they are offering programs without permission from
the company that offers Handybits. I'd use these as a download
source only as a last resort, and only after you've made a full
backup of your hard drive to use in restoring it if you manage
to import a virus or trojan instead of what you want.

If she would rather try downloading from Handybits directly,
she should see here:

Note that the versions that use MAPI are likely not to be
able to run on Vista systems that don't have a version
of Microsoft Office including Outlook installed, version
2003 or later.

Also, if she's interested in other voicemail programs that will work
under Vista, she should check these:
