John

For some time I have used Windows Messenger to hold voice
conversations with my daughter in South America. I
recently bought a new Dell Dimension 8300 and cannot
transmit my voice to her. I can send Instant Messages.
I can send files. And I can hear her. But she cannot hear
me. I have checked with Dell Technical Support and done
everything they suggest with no success: microphone and
sound card are both fine. I can use the microphone to
dictate in Dragon Naturally Speaking and it passes the
Messenger Audio Tuning Wizard.

My old computer and new sit side by side connected to
adjoining ports in the same router. She can hear me on
the old one but not the new. BUT!! we can communicate
both ways on Yahoo Messenger. The sound quality is not
as good so I would prefer to use Windows Messenger. As
far as I can see the settings for Windows Messenger and
Internet Explorer are the same on both computers, but I
must be missing something.

Any ideas?

Try this
right click on my net work places and go to properties,
right click on Local area connection and go to properties and un-tick QoS
packet scheduler
may help

John,

I had read on some recent postings that Intel Network
card drivers can cause this sort of problem. Dell PC
generally have on board intel network cards

Check the MSN mesenger newsgroup for these postings.

Have the exact same pc and exact same problem. And I
fixed it. Go to Network connections for your internet
connection. Look at properties. If you have the box for
Qos Packet Scheduler. Uncheck it. Voice will then
work. It fixed me. Best of luck.
