VMWare under XP Pro with NT guest

Look - sorry about the 'nn' posting, just forgot to correct it!

Hello,

I posted this on a VMWare group, I was the only one there, got one
reply, which said look at VMWare Workstation. This is encouraging and
I would like a little more info if possible from people who might be
using VMWare Workstation in the following scenario.

I have a new XP Pro laptop. I need to load NT under VMWare IF...

a) the virtual NT can have logical drives c: d: e: f: g: (like on my
old laptop).

b) I can do simple logical drive copies from old to new (lock, stock
and barrel in five fell swoops sort of thing).

c) thereby obviating software reload, consequent upgrades, fixpaks,
etc.

d) i.e with miniscule effort I can just resume my work.

Can it be done? Please, thanks.

Hi Graham,

I use both VMPlayer and MS VirtualPC. Of the 2, I use VirtualPC 90%
of the time. I am a software developer, and keep VPCs of Win95,
Win98, WinME, Win2000 and FreeDOS on my machine. The only one that I
use under VMPlayer is Win95.

VirtualPC will allow you to have multiple drives. The Big problem I
had was moving files from the 'real' machine to the virtual machine.
It works, it is just VERY slow. The main advantage of VMPlayer over
VirtualPC is that VMPlayer will recognize USB devices.

I have never built a VMPlayer machine. I have always just downloaded
what I needed. On the VirtualPC side, I created the machines then
just did a clean install of each OS.

Thanks for the info - am having some success with VirtualPC, haven't
heard the expression VMPlayer but will look into it further.
