The default setting is poor--too much for people with lots of memory and not
enough for those with little. Nevertheless, if you have at least 256MB, it
doesn't hurt you much. At most it wastes a little disk space. You can leave
it alone or you can improve it, but don't expect a giant improvement as a
result of setting it yourself .
