Is it possible to look up not only the contents of a cell, but also the cell
color using a vlookup?

Functions within Excel can do nothing about formatting, but you can
use VBA to get colours.

Bob Phillips gives details of a User-defined function here:

which can return the colour of a cell. Perhaps you can incorporate
this into your workbook.
