WHy can I not seem to change the rights for a certain
class of users on an XP PCs folder?. I am logged is as
the administrator. On all my w2ks I can right click on any
folder/file , as long as its NTFS, and see certian levels
of permissions for users..
But on XP PRO only can see sharing allowed or not allowed..

I am having the same problem in XP Home. I disabled simple file sharing using X-Setup Pro but it did not make a difference. Either X-Setup Pro does not work or disabling simple file sharing does not work.

Is there another way of disabling simple file sharing (editing the registry)?

XP Home does not support turning off Simple File Sharing. By default, the only way to see the Security tab is to boot into Safe Mode. However, there is a workaround on my site.

XP Home: By default, you can only make files and folders under My Documents "private". This is done by right clicking a folder or file and selecting Properties, Sharing. To change the permissions on other folders, you need to boot the computer to Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator account. In this mode, you'll see the Security tab in Properties, and you can assign permissions based on user name or group membership.

How Do I Get the Security Tab in Properties - XP Home (makes the Security tab appear outside of Safe Mode)

XP Home does not allow shutting off Simple Sharing mode.
