Visual Web Developer not showing coding

My copy of Visual Web Developer suddenly does not show the coding etc.
in color. The file is all in black text and you cannot do a browser
view either. What in the world happened?

That is. all comments are enclosed between <!-- and -->. Also, in the case
of Frontpage, the webbot components are shown in the HTML code as comments
like <!-- Web bot.......-->. Make sure these are all closed (if using FP
components).

What do you mean? There is no code showing only black text. the code
should be n red or whatever but can find no command to show code.
 
code view is the view in FP that shows any of your html tags in your black text
- the color is not relevant - if the whole page is an open comment the color will all be the same

problem is when it stopped showing the colors for edit it also stopped
doing view in browser to check it. Will not allow you do that, the
button is very faint and cannot be clicked to view in browser now.
 
What is the name of the file (extension) you are editing
- sounds like one that is not recognized as a std browser mime type

PS
FP Code view has nothing to do with preview in browser view
