In VS 2005, how do you install VS2005Express?

VS 2005 Express is a separate product install. You don't install VS 2005
Express *in* VS 2005. Just download and install it. As to whether or not
it interferes with VS 2005, well, you'll have to ask in a Visual Studio
newsgroup. The FAQ says it can coexist but real-world experience may prove
otherwise.

if you have the "full" VS 2005 you don't need or want the Express Version
(unless you want an Express version for a language you don't have, like
C#).

the Express tools are free versions that can only compile your app down to
a .NET executable (but not a full standalone). They're great for a free
tool, but you already have the real Macoy...

the express versions are basically a ploy by MS to get folks to try out
their tools and try out the .NET Framework. They're good tools too. But
..NET's future is anything but certain. It hasn't caught on as they would
have liked, hence the free candy. Anyone who's interested should give 'em
a try, they won't be a free download forever (so they say) [the tool won't
ever expire, it just won't be a free download+registration forever. Yes,
you do have to register it to activate it.]

Actually I looked at it because I'm still using VS6 and the express version
would give me some limited experience with the 2005 version. But I decided
that I didn't need to screw up my current setup just to play with the newer
but express version.

Yeah, I couldn't figure that out, either. Why ask for an express version
when you have the full version?

Except for the "Express" portion. Now I have that, too.

And what did the Express version give you that the full version did not? Uh
huh. All you did was waste disk space.

Is it ever going to catch on?n What are we six years into it? I could say
what I think the trouble with it is but let's let the devolpers have the
final say.
