Visual e-mail alert

Just started using new Windows E-mail on Vista operating system.My old
Outlook mail would show a visual indicator when I received new e-mail this
does not. Can't seem to find any preference settings to allow it to do it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Don I

Windows Mail shows an envelope in the Notification Area when there's new
mail. Of course, it has to be running to do this.
