Visual Basic Error when opening or closing excel

Had to re-install Office XP, now I get a Microsoft Visual
Basic error when opening and closing Excel:
On Opening - "Compile error in hidden module DISTMON"
On Closing - "Compile error in hidden module AutoExecNew"
I also get similar errors opening and closing word and
outlook.
Tried re-install and repair from original CD. SP3 has been
loaded.
 
Hi, Paul. If you are running Norton Antivirus, try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with it by clicking on Start | Programs | Norton | Options | Miscellaneous | uncheck the "Enable Office Plugin" box.
