Okay, I have no internet. I live in the dark ages and my little flat doesn't
understand the term broadband.

I do have internet at work but not at home where my nice shiney new laptop
is. So here's the question how do I download the patches to my work computer
so I can take them home to install?

The company firewall won't allow microsoft to scan my pc, so I can't do the
whole "validation" thing. I can't do the manual validation either as I don't
have the rights.
It used to be fine, I'd just go to downloads, click a link and save. Now
it's all interactive and driving me nuts. There must be a way to get the
updates but I've spent an hour going around in "we'd like to connect to your
computer" circles.

Ta muchly for any help

Go to an acquaintance who has a connection and download the Updates to a media and then install on yours

It's a laptop, just haul the laptop to the aquaintance. Or go to a Starbucks
or
someplace and do the WIFI thing.

That's my back up plan, but as a general rule isn't very practical.

My main puter buds live a couple of hundered miles away, I guess they could
upload to an FTP site for me, that could work. I'd better start buttering
some people up.

Although still open to alternatives....

Starbuck's are evil, all that coffee making you jittery, plus they don't
generally have wifi here in the UK.

I could sit on a Virgin train to link up, but it seems a little over the top.

Yes, there are a few places, but few are open out of office hours, weekends
are a no go as I've alot going on.

Is there really no simple link to the site that doesn't involve being probed?

Thanks for your thoughts gentlemen, looks like I'm dragging my shiney new
toy southwards.

You can certianly go to the M$ download site and manually download
each patch by searching on the KB number, but that is more of a pain
then finding a friend with broadband if you ask me.

I also have a script that does the updates from the command line, but
it requires an internet connection once again to figure out what updates
are needed.

I think the best you can do is go to M$ download site, do a search on
Vista security updates and download what you think applies. Then haul
it home and install.
