Vista Sidebar and Firewall

I've just installed AVG internet security, and since then, the vista sidebar
won't connect to the internet - I think it's something to do with the
firewall, but I'm not very good with computers!

You will do just fine with the Windows Firewall that is installed in Vista
already. Turn off the AVG firewall. The Control Panel/"Security Center" ,
after you turn off AVG, will tell you how to check for the normal Vista
Firewall
