One thing I miss in the search is the choice of broader categories,
such as audio and video and whatever else I dimly recall from the good
old days.
But now I hope someone will tell me how to tell the search to leave
out some of what the search will turn up.
Case in point, and what I'm after, I want Search to find all my music
files that are Not MP3s.
Thanks

Can't answer your question Myron, but may I add a supplementary Q of my own,
maybe an answer will help you too.
Can one use "wildcards" * and ? in search. Search In WinME would allow you
to search and find files with *.wav, mysong.*, or mys*.* ? (question mark,
not a wildcard) :-}

Silly me. Engage brain before selecting typing finger. Myron, try searching
*.wav to find all wav files, mysong*.wav to find all wav files starting with
mysong, and *song*.* to find all files containing the string song. Sure you
get the idea. Hope this answers you

Start > Search > Click on 'Music' (on the 'Show only' line) > Paste the
following in the top right search box

NOT *.mp3

Thanks Delboy.

Must admit, I really like this new search now. Certainly didn't initially. I
was extremely close to turning it off completely at one stage, due to
performance issues, but now I'm glad I stuck with it.

That does it. Thanks. But I thought I tried something like that -
maybe "NO" instead of "NOT."
As for the suggestion of going through types one by one, that's
exactly what I wanted to avoid.
