Hi, I am currently using XP Pro and am considering shifting to Vista. Is
there an online version that I can explore and get a feel of, before I make
my decision, or can I only use it by downloading. I understand there is an
online version of office 2007 for trial purposes and hope there might be the
same for Vista. Eg, I understand XP Pro and Vista are very different and I
was wondering if the same terminology is used, eg Control Panel, Display etc.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, there is no trial version of Windows Vista available
to download.

The OP is probably talking about the virtual environment that Office and/or
Visual Studio users have been able to use on microsoft's site.
I don't know of a Vista version though.
That said, there is a ton of reading and multimedia material at
http://www.microsoft.com/vista to give you a decent headstart.

Here's Some Help Full Advice: If You Have Windows XP Service Pack 2 Running
On Your Computer, And Even If It Runs Just Halfway Good On Your Computer, DO
NOT UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA AT ALL, It's A Complete Mess, And That's Even
With Service Pack One RTM, Just FYI.

Thanks to everyone concerned for helpful responses. kevpan recommends not
to install it. I must say I am very happy with XP Pro, but I tutor a lot of
people who have vista and Office 2007 and wanted to familiarise myself with
some of the features before consideration whether or not to install. i
would definitely not use a trial version, as it is too messy to get the xp
back! Everyone's help is appreciated. Many thanks.

Sure. Here's a bit of help ... get out of the computer tutoring business.
It's obviously not your forte.

Cheers.

Frank, you are without doubt the unfunniest NG'r I have ever read.
Please stop gatecrashing every thread with your dribble.
You may have a problem with a few posters here but you are not solving
anything by making everybody else have to *endure* your posts.

I didn't notice anyone else challenging NoStop's tripe.

If you do a "find" on kevpan's posts you'll quickly discover he's insane.
Pay no attention to him.

You can ADD Vista to your machine such that either XP or Vista can be
active - the two systems are not mutually exclusive.

That's easy to understand....people like this are in our Bozo Bin, aka Blocked
Senders List, so they don't show up on our radar. If they do show up again, I
"rule" them out. It makes for a better newsgroup experience.
