Well I have played with Vista for a while now and I want to setup the menu
system the way I like it.
In XP when I clicked on start I had a menu system like the following
Audio Visual
Diagnostics
Microsoft Office
etc etc
This enabled me to group all the programs together without having panels
runniing across the screen. Now I tried to do this in Vista ( after I found
the Start Menu lolol ) I spent a while doing this buut when it came to
clicking on a program nothing happened. I went through and tried all the
shortcuts I had moved and none of them worked. I then had to run system
restore to get it all back to normal.

So has anyone got any suggestions on this ?

What happens if you right-click a shortcut, not on the main menu, but, say,
your Desktop or in Start Menu's All Programs, and choose Pin to Start Menu.
If the shortcut reference, though, (e.g., another shortcut) is missing, it
wont work. For example, if you have a shortcut to My Program on the
Desktop, and drag it into the Start Menu, then delete the Desktop shortcut
My Program, the My Program shortcut pinned to the Start Menu won't work (you
can remove it from the Start Menu list by right-clicking on it). In other
words, the pinned shortcuts, to work, have to reference another permanent
file (the application itself, or another shortcut to the application).

FYI - I don't know why Microsoft removed the "Add Program" function to the
start menu but the manual process does work, Using explorer I opened
c:\users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu

I opened another explorer windows, right-clicked on the .exe and held down
the mouse while dragging it onto the first window. It pops up with a little
"what do you want to do" menu and I selected "Create Shortcut". Then when I
run it from the menu it executes just fine.

Hope that helps a little,
