if i click on a page to send a link it goes to gmail or blog i cannot send a
link all my settings are fine

If all your settings are fine, then why is something awry?
Please give us some basic information, like what is your preferred
email method (webmail, Windows Mail, etc.), and who is your
mail service provider?

does this mean vista is a pile of #$^&%$

No, it means you don't have something set correctly.
And you haven't given us enough information to assess what the problem might
be.
What do you mean by "send a link"?
Who is your email account with?
Can you send & receive email correctly with that account?
Are you using IE7 or Firefox, or other?
Are you trying to send email from a webpage?
Does WM have all of the email protocol defaults, especially Mailto: ?
Start - Default Programs - Set your default programs
click on Windows Mail

You didn't answer my second question.

There is no such thing as setting a service provider as default.

To ensure that Windows Mail has all its defaults:
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on Windows Mail.
If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults" then fix it by
clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

Repeat the above for Internet Explorer.
