I saved all my XP mail files on D Drive. I did a clean install of Vista on
C. I can't get the import feature to bring in my email. My email is
definitely still saved. The import feature talks about importing OE6 store.
What do they mean by store. When I point to the files it tells me there is
no mail to import. I imported the address book without any problems.

By 'store', they mean a folder containing .dbx files, which is how OE
maintained its various folders. How did you 'save' all your XP mail files?
If you saved them as individual .eml files, you can drag & drop them into
the Inbox.

Hmmmm...Glad to see that I am not the only one with this problem. Using "My
Computer", I can view the files (the .dbx files) stored on a different drive
so I know they are there (and hoepfully safe!) but when I do an IMPORT, I get
a "No Files Found". Disturbing, but there must be a work-around

They were saved as .dbx files. The way windows stored them!. Can't drag and
drop them - they show up as attachment in new email with no file association.

I'm having problems with posting so if you see this post several times -
sorry!

The message store is the directory where the dbx files are located.

If the import is failing then do the following:

Create a directory under your user space. Then copy all the dbx files from
their previous location to that directory. Then select all the files and
right click on them and go to Properties and make sure they aren't read
only. Then in WinMail go to File | Import | Messages and choose OE6 format
and the choose to import from a directory. Then see if it works.

Make a new folder in your Documents folder and move them there. Make sure
they are not Read Only and that Folders.dbx and then try importing from this
location.

This didn't work. I believe the problem has to do with the store and not
allowing me to chose the main identity in the window. This is greyed out!!!!

I said to choose to import from an directory and not an Identity. If you
choose directory then it should allow you to browse to it.

I've tried it exactly as you descibed. It tells me there is nothing in the
folder.

Is there a way to copy emails to a usb drive. I have another computer were
I can import the folders. This will give me back the emails but I still have
the problem of getting them on this computer with vista. If I can copy them
as .eml docs. I can drag them into MS mail. I could email them as
attachments but it is impractical, there are thousands of emails. I can't
believe MS didn't realize this problem would exist with a clean install!!!

You can copy the dbx files to another computer to import them (via a USB
stick) and once you get the eml files you can drag them into OE folders.

My DBXpress program will extract all the messages from the dbx files as eml
files: www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/

I'm also working on my OEX program (www.oehelp.com/OEX/) to allow for you to
point to a dbx file and import the messages from it directly, but that's
requiring some major rewriting for Vista, so it will take a bit of time to
get done.

Microsoft has a long reputation of not paying much attention to users'
wishes for OE (WinMail).
