Hi there,
I have a new computer that came pre-installed with Vista. I am
considering installing XP or Linux as Vista is really spoiling my experience
of the new PC. If at some point in the future, Vista looks like it's
worthwhile installing, will I be able to get a CD from Microsoft?

No. You would have to contact the manufacturer of your new PC
and order their customized OEM Windows Vista recovery/reinstallation disc
designed for your specific PC model.

I have the Vista recovery disk, but there is very little on it.

Most likely the Vista installation files are on a recovery partition on your
hard drive and the recovery disk is just an application that access that
partition, but again, you'd need to contact or search the mfg's website for
that info.

What I'd do is make an image using Acronis TrueImage and burn it to one/two
DVDs.
