Have a new Dell 640M laptop w/vista HP and when close the top while running
and then reopen later the resolution has changed and must open display to
reset. Have been talking many too many times with dell, but no help.

Any suggestions??

Hi rmunk,

I too would have that problem when I first upgraded to Vista but now, it
happens infrequently. I updated my video drivers and in fact, I went through
all the drivers listed in my Device Manager and checked for updated drivers
there. Come to find out, there were 6 drivers that needed to be updated!
Now, the screen (and icons) stay where I put them. Hope that helps. And
Dell and Microsoft know about the problem and I guess there just isn't a fix
yet. In the mean time, I would double check your screen graphics/wallpaper
and try to match its resolution as closely as possible to the resolution that
your display is set on. Good luck,
Jerry

I just got the Dell lap top inspiron 6400 with Vista last week. I think i am
having similar problems. When i wake my computer up from sleep mode my
settings are changed. Most of the time the display resolution is smaller.
other times my mouse pointer has a shadow, and my scrolls on the finger pad
don't work. I have no idea how to fix this? Can you help me?

Hi,

Make sure your video drivers are up to date and also, check your
screen/display resolution and try to match that as much as you can to the
desktop wallpaper or screen saver resolution that you are using. Also, check
Dell's site for "Drivers and Downloads" to make sure your mouse pad is up to
date. Good luck,

Jerry

Just chiming in to let you know it's not a Dell problem. I have a new
Gateway laptop running Vista Ultimate and have the same frustrating problem.
Not always, but sometimes, when waking the machine up from sleep the
resolution has been reset at the lowest levels, moving all the icons around
my desktop. Acka...
