I would prefer to use the email lists in "Contacts" instead of the
unmanageable listing
in the "To" when creating a new email, can anyone advise how to
1/ use the "Contacts" list for mailing purposes instead of the "To" list
&
2/ how can the names in the "To" list be deleted.

I have the option of "Automatically put people I reply to in my Contact
List" disabled
but the email listing in "To" has multiple entries that I can not remove.

Thanks

For completing addresses you start to type, Windows Mail doesn't use
the contacts list. Instead, it uses a separate list of the last 29
addresses
you sent messages to. This list is very hard to edit; it's easier to just
send messages to the 29 addresses you want on the list.

If you'd rather use the contacts list, don't type any part of the address
when starting a new message. Instead, click on To:.

When you compose a message, and click on To: it opens the contacts in the
Contacts folder.

If you start typing in an email address, it tries to auto-complete from the
last 29 addresses you typed in. This often does not work correctly. These
addresses are stored in the registry in binary form, and therefore not
easily removed.
Here's how to delete them...

BTW, the newer Windows Live Mail works much better.
