I ran clean up utility on Vista Ultimate this morning. COMPLETELY ERASED ALL
PROGRAMS AND FILES...INCLUDING BOOT CONFIG FOR VISTA...even Vista will not
run!!!!!!!

Please tell what cleanup utility you ran. Was it the Vista utility or a 3rd
party utility?

I am not saying that what you experienced is impossible but I have never
heard of this before. It sounds to me like you had another problem that
occurred simultaneously with the cleanup process.

At this point I am assuming that you can not bring your computer up - a
logical assumption if everything has been deleted/erased? If this is the
case, how do you know that everything has been deleted/erased?

Please come back with more information.

After the clean up. I was still on Vista. Desktop only had two icons, so I
looked for my programs, nothing there. I looked on the hard drive, disk space
was 125GB used, after Vista clean up on 25 GB used. Looked in Windows
Explorer, program names were there but looking in them nothing was there.
Looked for DOC's nothing there. No other programs were open whenI stared the
utility.
I then restarted the PC and it came up with the boot file incomplete
reinstall your Windows CD. My big problem here is I downloaded Vista Ultimate
Feb 1st and I have no Vista CD. I do not want to BUY this program again.

Are you with Microsoft? If so how can I handle this?

No, I am not with Microsoft. MVP's are unpaid volunteers trying to assist
people with problems.

You downloaded Ultimate in Feb. and did nothing to protect your investment,
such as burning the download to a DVD? If you got the retail version you
could just borrow the install DVD from a friend and use your 25 place
install key.

Just for future reference. There was the exact same issue posted by an OP in the .hu(Hungarian) XP newsgroup which I participate in. The OP posted that his Vista install lost all the3rd party programs also some default ones and all personal folders he had right after using the Vista built in Clean Up utility.

After it was determined that the OP used a reg cleaner which he was advised to use ( reg cleaner program that was written by some Russian for Vista) on his Vista to regain space. Right after he noticed that he lost some programs and personal files and when he tried to reboot it was a no go.

The scenario here sounds exactly the same as per a reg cleaner app. Repair apparently did not work. The OP got his system back up again by doing a complete clean reformat and install. Like everyone else he did not have a backup of his important files.

Thanks Peter. Any chance of finding out the programs name that did the
damage?

I strongly disagree with you on the mvp issue.
they may not get paid in $$$, but they do receive goods and services for being a mvp.
of course you are not supposed to know that.
because technically it would make them ms employees.
this would get into taxes and others areas.

surely you do not think they do that for NOTHING.

Please try to avoid applying your own values to other people. Whenever you
try to lump people into nice tidy groups, it reveals a lack of intelligence.

It is NOT a typical MVP attitude. It is an attitude shared by many aside from MVP's about your (not all but a fair amount) postings and in your replies to posters. You do this in the different newsgroups that you post in

Maybe a little thought in your posts can go a long way.

Although you post many correct answers which is very helpful ,but answers and posts like above is not called for.

And Again I ask you very politely PLEASE stop posting with your HTML Code

possible you need to learn how to control/configure your os to display posts in the manner of your choice.

yes it is a typical mvp attitude, if you cannot prove the post wrong, be rude.
