Vista and Blackboard?

I am a student who is taking on-line classes. The on-line format
("Blackboard") is used nation-wide, and is not connected to any one
University in particular. This being said, the section where I am to submit
my work is similar to the "Add new Thread" in this forum - yet I am unable to
type within the box. I have kept updated on all the Vista new downloads. I
was told by a tech support person from Blackboard suggested to get a patch
from Java, (the bottom of the screen reads "Error on page," then everything
else says "Java script" when highlighted) I did this and the problem has not
changed. I realize this is probably a very simple problem to resolve (I'm
hoping!), so if anyone has some wisdom to impart - it would be much
appreciated!
Thanks

Hi Rebekah--

I'm not familiar with Blackboard, but I'm trying to catch up and see what
it's about. A quick look at links though in search engines putting
Blackboard and Vista together suggests that there may be some issues because
Blackboard hasn't updated to be compatible with Vista. I would think there
are enough students though around you whose new computers come with Vista on
them to get some idea of how it's working or not from them. It shouldn't
take long to know if it's working for your classmates or not.

See for example:

Blackboard Issues under Windows Vista
http://www.blackboard.niu.edu/blackboard/resources/vista.shtml

"Visual text box editor used to enter announcements or descriptions for
assignements or files in general, does not seem to work with Internet
Explorer 7 in Vista...One way to fix this problem is disabling the Visual
Text Editor in Personal Information Preferences under Tools Module.

See if this gets things working for you.

Good luck,

CH

Hey Chad, You Should Check Out Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW, Just FYI.

As a system administrator for a school that uses Blackboard, I would be very
surprised if Java was not your problem.

Go to www.java.com, and do the download to the latest version. If you
already have the latest version, then I suggest you remove all existing
instances of Java on your computer, then go to the page and download/install
it again.

Just in case you are not familiar with removing Java, simply click Start,
type "Programs and Features", and remove all instances of Java.

Hope this helps!

You are my hero!!!! I did that and it worked! I am able to submit. I am
embarrassed to say that I have been dealing with this problem for almost year
and finally got fed up with working on two different computers, especially
after forking out so much money for a new one. I cannot tell you how much I
appreciate your help.
Thanks

P.S. To the systems administrator who said that my problem was Java, I
already went down that route. I have dealt with Java and everything they have
to offer as it pertains to my compatibility problem, but thanks anyway.

Nice going Rebekah. Glad it's fixed.
