Virus???

Hi I am getting the weirdest error message at startup
on my xp home ed. computer. Right after the xp logo
a box pops up and it says"The procedure entry point
AssocIsDangerous could not be located in the dynamic
link library shlwapi.dll." So I click on the ok button
and another box pops up saying " The logon user interface
dll msgina.dll failed to load. Try restoring the original
dll." A restart button is on the bottom or the message. I
click on it and the puter reboots and the whole process
is repeated. Anyone have any ideas? This is a clients
computer and I was called to the site because of slow
performance. I want to install and run adaware and norton
antivirus but can't get that far. Thanks in advance for
any help.

I know of the products and websites you are referring to
Rocky//trouble is I can't get the computer to fully boot
so I can use any of them. I can't install adaware,or any
antivirus products.
 
For a start, can you get it going in safe mode?
Next, can you download adaware, spybot etc. onto the pc you're usin
for this forum and then install to other pc from CD copy?
If you get hold of a Norton AV CD you can do a scan from DOS, just pu
the disk in and set the pc to boot from it
