In my c:/windows/temp directory is a file that can't be
erased. It always says it is in use by another person or
program. It is not there when I boot up in DOS and in
Windows the file has a different name at each boot up.

What is generating this file (it is a *.tmp file)? And
how do I get rid of it and its parent?

The computer works very well. Not problem one. I
was just doing some cleaning up when I happened
on the file.

Thank you,

That was the first thing I tried. The file isn't there in Safe
Mode. It has to be something that Windows is creating on
each boot up as the name of the file is different on each
boot up.

George;
If the file is changing, Windows is not doing it.
There are a variety of viruses and other malware that work that way.
Something that does not run in Safe Mode is running in Normal mode.
Did you follow the yellow section on the link I gave?

If the problem is still there after the other steps, #12 may help
determine exactly what it is.

I'm sorry, but I deleted the message you sent that had the
yellow highlighted links in it. I ran a virus checker on the
drive and it said there were no viruses.

Could you please post the web page that those yellow
links were on.

Thank you,

I don't think of it as a problem, just a nuisance
