Twice today a message has been displayed on my screen
saying a virus had been detected and to run a virus
check.I did and the result displayed was"no virus found"I
am using Grisoft VAG free edition software.Do I need to
worry or can I ignore the virus alert?I have just had a
clean reinstall of XP home edition, and within 24 hours
there were 3 viruses on the machine, these were removed by
the PC engineer and he downloaded a patch.
I would appreciate any advice.

The virus alert could be of an infected file in the active memory of
your computer . If you have deleted the infected file then scanned all
drives ( in the case that your anti-virus was updated) and found
nothing, then there is no reason to worry . Just keep your anti-virus
always up-to-date , keep it running all the time , scan your computer
at
least weakly and use a firewall.

PS: Why don't u use sth better like McAfee 8.0 or Notion 2004 or
Panda? These are not famous Anti-viruses just because of some
commercials.
Think about it...

Good Luck

download ...run....these items

spybot
ad-aware

it was not a virus you saw it was spyware...
and spybot caught it in seconds and stopped it.

Greetings --

Free software, or anything else for that matter, is very often
worth exactly what you paid for it. AVG, however, does have a
reasonably good reputation, and has been recommended by people whose
opinions I normally respect.

To get a second, third, or fourth opinion, you can try using one
or more of
these free on-line virus scanners:

Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan

McAfee Security - FreeScan

Symantec Security Check

I have used AVG for years. I think it is excellent and I always recommend
it to my clients. I am currently trying out their Version 7 which I will
have to pay for if I decide I want to keep it. I have never personally got
on too well with Noron - AVG is much more straightforward.

Greetings --

Yes, AVG does enjoy a good reputation. I've never tried it,
though, always having been quite happy with NAV.
