Virus Shuts Monitor Off Upon Detection

The wonderful husband won't stop downloading porn (and I don't even
care about the porn- I told him to get mags instead! Just stop
downloading that crap to my systems, they download virus too!) It's
messed up two computers in the very same way . I have no idea how to
fix them.

If I use Spybot, the moment the search finds the bug it either goes
into a 'fuzzy snow screen' or goes black. If I use any kind of virus
detection software, the moment it's detected, the screen goes black. I
regain the monitor upon reboot. The other computer I have either gives
me a fuzzy illegible or black screen in almost five minutes after boot.
IT seems that this thing starts on upon being detected and then gets
worse.

I am debating whether or not this is the W32Klez virus problem or not.
The description didn't completely fit my problem. I'm going to try
Symantec's fix, but if it doesn't work, DAMN! I have to scrap the whole
drive and start over again (what a pain).

I've checked the Power options and it's interesting to note that the
UPS (Uninteruptible Power Service) has currently been stopped with no
options available for turning it back on. A triangle with the
exclamation appears next to this notice as if the computer is saying
"What the F@#$".

Sorry about the crassness, I'm just upset.

If anyone knows anything about this, please do tell. Thanks!

You could try and locate the group Microsoft.public.security.virus as I've
seen some rare tricks suggested there, and you might also try running the
machine in safe mode (Press F8 while booting) to see if you can get any
better results that way. Wherever you post mention which Av systems you have
tried so far, you just said "any" and not which ones.

Also mention if these are laptops or if any special display settings are
used, the black screen may just mean that something the AV does is changing
the resolution to something the monitor can't handle with the settings it
has.

Not many have much faith in Norton, their products generally create more
mayhem than they fix, and whatever you use make sure it is the latest
version with latest updates. I have used AVG for a long time and whilst it
is not perfect it doesn't; generally cause trouble either.

Actually it's more likely a trojan or ad/spyware that's been acquired but
what we need to establish I think is whether this is a deliberate effect of
a virus or just something accidental that's got other causes. The virus
group above may be very helpful.

If my spouse was doing what yours is doing, I would reinstall the os on one
machine, set up a power on password so that only I could use it and then let
the offender deal with the problems on the compromised machine.
