virus scanner is preventing files from opening

After installation of the Symantec Antivirus client on
two XP machines running Office 2003, both systems will
not load Excell files -- even ones created, then saved!

The information I get is that the virus scanner has
detected a problem with a file.

What can I do to resolve this??
 
To check whether the problem is corruption of the files or not, you could
switch off (functions of) the virrusscanner and then open your file. But
only ofcourse if you are sure that the virusscanner isn't right.
