The other night I removed AVG (which had recently told me all was
well) and installed Avast. I then ran a thorough scan only to discover
I had the Kang virus residing deep within. I deleted it and made the
appropriate calls to my bank and credit card number to change
passwords.

This morning I ran another scan and all was well BUT... there were
over a hundred files it could not scan. Here is an example listing:

C:\...\[email protected][2]txt
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\...sbRecovery.ini

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\...sbRecovery.ini
C:\Documents and Settings \All Users\related.htm

C:\Documents and Settings\...\leushino@atdmt[2]txt

C:\...\leushino@fastclick[2].txt
C:\...\leushino@hitbox[2].txt
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\...sbRecovery.ini
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\...sbRecovery.reg
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\WkUFind.exe
C:\Downloads\Opera7.2\ow32enen720j.exe\...\[AsPack}
C:\Program Files\Java.nio.charset.spi.CharsetProvider
C:\Program Files\Java\j2rei.4.1_a\lib\...\MANIFEST.MF

How can I configure Avast to scan these? Are these files important to
scan?

I've had Norton and McAfee in the past and NEVER had such an
indication. They simply scanned all my files and told me the outcome.
I'm wondering... is it time to dump this AV (it's free) and purchase
Norton or McAfee? Why are these files not being scanned? Could a virus
hide within them?

those files are important to scan.I would suggest going
to the manufacurers website and asking them or even read
through the help file that came with the program

Is that the actual name of the virus, cause either I'm missing something or
it doesn't exist. I just checked three virus encyclopedias and none of them
have a virus called Kang. I'd trust avg or avast anyday.

Yes... I read about it at Symantec's site. It is also called Sophos.
It attempts to harvest passwords. That's why I am so concerned.

I've been to Avast's site but they're not sure why these files cannnot
be scanned. Frankly, I'm about ready to dump it and pay some money for
another more familiar av program. Thanks.

Oh Sophos, sure I know that one without even looking it up. Maybe the files
were in use and that's why the scanner couldn't scan them?

Also, some of the files he listed look like spyware to me and even
though a/v software is comming along in the spyware department they
still won't catch all those little boogers.
