Thanks big time for your response. I went to the site "symantec.com" as you've recommended. But as I know very little about computers, I don't understand even half of what the removal instructions are saying. What is a registry? (Excuse me for my ignorance!) Anyway, I've bought the McAfee Virus Scan software. Will this software help me delete the virus?
It may. Read the installation directions carefully, ask somebody (this
is a good spot to ask questions - here or .newusers) if there's
something you don't understand, and make sure you update the virus
definition files first thing after you install. This is the
"dictionary" that your fancy new software looks at to find virus
definitions. If the "dictionary" doesn't have the latest "slang", your
computer won't be able to detect the latest viruses. New definitions
come out at least every couple of weeks. Check at least that often, or
set the auto-update so you don't have to bother.
Given what you just said about the registry, DON'T mess with it until
you've read up on it, and know exactly what you're dealing with and what
the risks are. If you and computers don't get along, don't go anywhere
near it. Get a computer-geek friend to help you. My favorite analogy
is that it's like doing open heart surgery while the heart is still
beating.
Hope this helps!
