crazyal

hi, after finely clearing my pc of viruses there are some files left
over from a virus in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings
\Temp (like there's some files with the same name as a process
(s3n4.exe and there are a number of other files with similar names)
related to the virus and I'm just wondering if it would be safe to
delete them,
I'm running windows XP home sp2 all updates installed,
Thanks

Sounds like you've not cleaned the machine thoroughly.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or other appropriate forums for expert
analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

There's no good reason to keep them. Be sure that when you delete any of the
suspect files that they go to the recycle bin. In this way, in case you delete a
file that shouldn't have been, you can restore it.

If you have any utility that automatically purges your recycle bin, be sure to
disable it beforehand. It can be enabled again after a time when you're
comfortable with these deletions.

Yes. You can safely delete them. You can delete anything in the temp
folders that is not in use. So, if you see anything there with a timestamp
later than when you booted the computer, it might not be possible to delete
it yet. Next reboot it will be possible, but it'll also probably disappear
on its own if everything is working right.
