Good afternoon,

My machine is Compaq Presario 1925, PII 333Mhz, 128MB of RAM and 6G HDD the
operating system is Windows XP SP 1.

Preinstalled operating system was Windows 98 but I installed Windows XP. For
the first few weeks the system is ok and recently I got Trojans and pests. I
use McAfee and updates regularly it cleaned the Trojans and Pestpetrol
cleaned the pest. Now the problems is my system performance is changed
always I have error message "Virtual memory law..." I installed "ramcleaner
3.6" but still having problems. I am not able to access some website always
I crashed and stuck. I do the usual system mountainous and I also use V Com
System Suite.

Here I am looking for all of your advice and help to improve my system
performance better. Please kindly help me, and advise me what I have to do
to improve my machine's performance.

Sincerely,

Cael

Hi there, first thing to say is that your machine is
running a little low on processing power - if may be time
to upgrade to a more powerful PC as XP places more demands
on systems.

You are running out of space on your hard disk and the
system uses some virtual disk space to double up as
additional memory capacity - I'd suggest: delete some
unwanted files and by so doing free up space on the hard
drive.

Any application that you have running uses up additional
memory for the system - so Ramcleaner is actually using up
system resources.

Like I say, the specifications of your machine really are
placing you at the lower end of performance by quite a
margin - upgrading or purchasing a new system would solve
the virtual memory issue.

A common cause of low virtual memory message is that you have insufficient
free space on your hard disk. How large is your hard disk and how much free
space. You can obtain this information by double clicking the My Computer
icon on your Desktop. Then right click and select Properties and the
information will be displayed.

Some housekeeping will help. A suggested routine may include:

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.

2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.

3. Run Disk Cleanup. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk
Cleanup with Temporary Internet Files, Offline Web Pages (optional), and
Recycle Bin selected for deletion. Then click the More Options tab and the
CleanUp button against System Restore.

4. Run Disk Defragmenter.

The problem you have is that you have installed an operating system on a
computer that was designed for an earlier operating system. To run XP you
really need 256 mb RAM memory and because your supply of RAM memory is
limited your machine is supplementing the shortfall with virtual memory.
Virtual memory requires free disk space and because you have a small hard
disk you could be filling it nearly to capacity each time the pagefile
grows. The Windows XP files alone can take around 3 gb. Have you taken all
the XP updates?
