I know in ME/98 there was a way to change the amount of virtual memory. It
looks like in XP the paging file is the equivalent of this. Is that right?
If not, where can I change it to make my virutal memory bigger. I have
increaseased paging file size by 1,000mb greater than the default settings.

I have all the latest drivers, but I am having an audio/lag problem in the
games I play online. Whenever an audio (automated voice) comes up to tell me
to do something in the games, I get a 1 second stoppage. It is almost like
the computer skips in the data transfer. The games are all HalfLife mods
used through the network program called Steam.

I was told that this is probably a cache problem and that I should increase
the virutal memory.

Pentium 4 2.7cpu
1gig ram
35gig free on the HDD
XP Pro sp2
ati radeon x600 video card

It may be a problem on-line with the game server or your
node on the net. I see you have AOL, in your email line.
Who is your ISP?

Not exactly. Although many people use the term that way, in Microsoft's
usage, virtual memory is the sum total of all the memory availably to you:
RAM plus the paging file.

memory bigger. I have increaseased paging file size by 1,000mb

Read the article ny Alex Nichol that Will Denny suggested.

Another word on the terminology: "cache" and "virtual memory" (page file)
are not only not the same thing, they are almost exact opposites. "Caching"
is using a small amount of high-speed memory in place of slower to imporove
performance. "Virtual memory" is using slower memory (disk) in place of
faster (RAM). It does this at a cost in performance, but it makes it
possible to do more than you could do without it

In your case, I doubt whether your problem has anything to do with either
caching or virtual memory. However I know nothing about computer games, and
can't offer any better suggestion.
