I am amazed that such a simple problem(or should be) as viewing open programs
in the taskbar cannot be solved by amending some setting in XP itself! I
express my disappointment, similar to others, about this shortcoming in XP.
Why should we resort to 3rd party software to fix such a problem. And open
our software to any associated security risks.

Hi,

Do you mean the issue of running programs not minimizing to the taskbar?
It's not a setting you can turn on or off as it's not supposed to happen at
all. Problem is that it does. There is a fix from MVP Kelly here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Scroll to line 240, left column

Which basically disables the Windows shell, deletes several registry keys
associated with the taskbar so they can rebuild, resets a number of values,
then restarts the shell. You could do it all manually, but why would you
want to?

Part of the issue is that youse have the problem but we can diagnose it. But we need the problem for that. My understanding is they do minimise to the taskbar but it's invisible. Do you have the problem?
