Viewing email in html

I have Outlook 97 over Win 98-2nd ed. Can't seem to view an email in a fully
assembled html page. The gifs will be kept seperate as attachments. I
normally have 'use Word as email editor' selected. Is that a factor? Does
security selection for attachments have something to do with it?

Outlook 97 is the only Outlook version without HTML support.

I just switched from express to outlook and I can't see anything in html
messages and all the picture content I used to get in e-mails is now gone.
 
It's possible that the messages in your Outlook Inbox were all sent in plain text format. If you're seeing something else, then maybe if you can describe what you're seeing, someone can help you figure out the problem.

Up at the top of messages, many of them say whether they are text messages or
html messages. All of the messages that are html id'd are blank. I can also
distinguish by looking in the properties of each message. The text files are
fine. The html messages are blank.

FYI, you can see the source of an HTML message by right-clicking in its body and choosing View Source. If it doesn't have a complete <html></html> tag with all the other tags in between, it might have been damaged along the way. A good way to learn more might be to check the same messages from a different email program -- especially easy if your mail server supports a browser interface.

While you're at it, it could be useful if you went to Help | About Microsout Outlook and got us the version number for Outlook and whether it's in Internet Mail Only or Corporate/Workgroup mode.

At the top of each message it gives the subject then "message" is printed
then it tells you the format of the message.

Version is 9.00.6627 Internet only
