Viewing a documents contents before opening the page

How do i tell or program my word docs (while in list format) to show a
preview to the right colume before i actually open them?

On the Summary tab of the Document Properties dialog, check the box for
"Save preview picture"

You need to set the display to Preview (instead of List, Details, etc.). But
