View Network Connections Window

Whenever I open the Network Connection Window (Control Panel)I see very
briefly (maybe 1 second) my network icon. Then it disappears. Anyone know
why this happens and how to fix it?

I have the same problem on my HP pavilion zt32222
notebook using xp home edition. please help.
