Help.
Normally in an XP environment when using Windows Explorer you can switch
between a Folder View (selecting the folder button in the toolbar), the
Search View (selecting the search button in the toolbar), or what I call the
Task View when both the Folder and Search buttons are deselected. This Task
View has a bunch of usefull tasks that change depending upon what type of
item is selected in the main window pane.

The question is... somehow the Task View no longer displays when the other
two are not selected, and I can find no reference to where it gets turned on
or off. Does anyone know where to turn this feature back on?

Thanks for any guidance.

You have to toggle Folders Button. It can be used for "Folders" View or
Task View (or System Tasks).

Also there are arrow butons under system Tasks view which you can click
to get details.

Hope this is what you want.

Most likely fix:

Folder Options -> 'General' tab -> check "Show common tasks in folders"

I haver a similar problem and want to do as you suggest, Keith, but the "show
common tasks in folders" is greyed out. Any idea how to fix this?

In Pro, use the group policy editor: Under "User Config -> Admin Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer", look for the option named "Turn on Classic Shell" and set it to disabled.

If you're using XP Home, open regedit & navigate to:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer"

and delete the value named "ClassicShell"

Good Luck,
Keith

Keith, many thanks! I forgot to mention I was using XP Home, but you came up
trumps anyway! Works fine! Again, Many many thanks!

You're welcome. Glad it's fixed.
