Originally, after an upgrade from 98SE to XP, I had
problems with a 'squeezed screen' running Infogrames
Master of Orion III (MOO3). Looking at the presentation
box, MOO3 is supposed to be able to run with XP. But it
hasn't! (But then XP was supposed to be able to handle my
trusty old HP 500C printer, which it did list, but can't!
Though that is another story!) I ran the XP compatibility
wizard and restored the Windows 98 settings for the game,
which theoretically should have worked, but also didn't!
I ran a systems diagnosis on the drivers, as XP
instructed, which said they were okay. What was there
left to do?
Anyway, this is all academic at the moment. Now I have
another problem. I can't run the MOO3 at all! Or any of
my other games which I could run before, even under the
new OS! I think that in messing about with uninstalling
and re-installing and 'restore-points' I have screwed up
the video card settings, and perhaps I have knocked out
the videocard, despite the system saying it is still
functioning! It could also be that I caused a problem
with my videocard as I remember getting a flash error
message about a problem in re-booting; some sort of
software/hardware problem, though it did then proceed to
re-boot successfully but possibly I lost, temporarily, my
videocard then. I have, as I say, ran diagnoses which say
that my Geforce II is working and my drivers are also
okay according to XP, and I did a restore back to a point
at which things should be working, but obviously
something is wrong and I have now reached the limit of my
technical understanding.
I have done repeated Google searches through a Net haze
of computer pain but to no avail, except in finding
forums like this! Can anyone please advise? Incidentally,
should I delete my videocard, as some one has suggested,
in the hope that XP will pick it up again when I reboot?

scream!'
