I realize I'll probably have to add more detail to get an answer, but I'll
give you what I have right now.
A couple months ago I had a HD crash on my Compaq. I installed a new HD and
tried to recover with the recovery disks. Utter failure. (Compaq said it was
because the old was 40GB and the new was 120GB. I needed the same size HD.
Bullsh*t I'm sure, but who knows.)
Anyway, the onboard video offered really bad resolution, so I installed the
GeForce 4 card I had in my old system. It worked normally until the crash.
After installing the new HD and installing my own copy of XP the resolution
is fine, but I have to reset it after a reboot.
What happens is the system comes up and the screen looks "stretched". I have
to move the cursor a few inches below a button to activate it. (It streches
vertically, horizontally it's fine.) What I have to do is right-click the
desktop and go into settings. From there it's listed as 1280x1024. I have to
move it to 800x600, then move it back to 1280x1024 and apply. It looks fine
after that until a reboot.
In the settings it lists 3 monitors, and has the 3 shadows numbered. ID'ing
the monitor it shows the correct one as "1".
It's named: Plug and Play Monitor on Nvidia GForce4 MX420.
I've tried to download a few drivers, but mayboe not getting the correct one?
Any help in this is appreciated. It's more an annoyance to me, but my wife
hates it.
