Video Problems...HELP!

I'm running Windows XP and recently had to replace my motherboard. Most
features on my system are functioning since I used the same model motherboard
for a replacement.
My problem is that when I open a video clip it begins to play and then
stops, clicks continually and freezes up the system.
I uninstalled Media Player 11 and reinstalled it. I completely uninstalled
11 and rolled back to 10. I made Nero my default player and it did the same
thing.
I have been running Symantec's System Tools and one item it is unable to
repair is msvcr80.dll. It refers to
c:/windows/microsoft.net\fraework\w20.506, which I'm unable to find in a
search.
It locks up so solid that I have neither cursor nor keyboard functions and I
have to press restart.

After replacing the motherboard you need to perform a Repair install of XP -
did you do that?

No, I did not do that. The reason I replaced the MB with the EXACT MB was so
I would not have to reinstall windows. I'm trying to avoid having to load
all of my software, settings, etc.
I take it you're thinking that's where I should go. I did run system
restore. I've had issues, and 1 by 1 I've been able to resolve them.
If I run windows in the repair mode it warns me that I may lose all my
settings. Once I read the repair needed per Symantec I again gave thought to
running repair.
If you think this is probably the way to go, then I'll make it happen.
Please advise, and thanks.
While we're at it, because the repair shop said I had to reinstall XP I did
a full install but the system does not boot off of that installation. How
can I remove it?
