I forgot to mention one big point: I need to edit the video -cutting off the
intro at the beginning. Thanks again for all and any help in how to do this!

So you want us to teach you how to edit the video itself?

As for playing the video in PPT, first read this:
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm

Then test your video in mplay32.exe as described there.

If the file doesn't play in mplay32.exe, it's not gonna play in PPT

If the file plays in mplay32.exe but not in PPT, then see this:
http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm

I am betting it's a codec issue since you hear sound but don't see motion.
So you might try opening the file in Movie Maker and doing a Save As to save
as WMV.

If you can change the size of the file (is it full screen or what?), that
would help cut down on the size. Fewer frames/second would also be good, but
I don't know that you can change the frames/second if you leave the file as
a true MPEG. You might also perhaps see about changing the sound in the
video from stereo to mono...

Echo, You are awesome. Thank you. Your thoughts got me thinking and
actually led me to find the fix in this way which was quick and essentially
pretty easy:

- I used Windows Movie Maker to edit the file (you have to bring in into the
collection first - you can't just open it),
- Then I made my edits.
- Then I dragged the frames down into the Timeline at the bottom.
- Then I saved it NOT by going to File Save Project but in the task pane on
left, under Finish Movie I did a "Save to my Computer". When I got the the
part about what "movie setting" to choose, I was choosing the DV-AVI
selection, which also gave me just a black screen with full audio when
playing in my pres. But when I chose the "Best quality for playback on my
computer", it saved and I was able to bring it into PPT just fine. FINALLY!

So thank you so much for your thoughts, they were just what I needed to get
the right wheels turning. Have a great weekend!

Glad to hear you got it going, V-ger. And thanks for letting us know what
you did.

Now you can relax this weekend!
