Video in Powerpoint

Since installing SP1, Powerpoint 2003 can only find MPEG
video files that are in the same directory as the
presentation itself, even if the explicit location of the
MPEG file is specified in the Powerpoint file (e.g.,
c:\my videos\videofile.mpg). Powerpoint presentations
that have worked fine previously now give the message:

"Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be
sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does
not exist at the specified location, or the computer
where the file is stored is offline."

even though the file DOES exist at the specified
location. The workaround is to put the .mpg files in the
same directory as the .ppt files, but it would be nice if
this bug were fixed.

This does not happen for me when I insert an MPEG in PowerPoint 2003 SP1. The
file exists in C:\Documents and Settings\Sonia\My Documents\My Videos\kim.mpg
but the presentation is saved to a folder on a different hard drive. I close
PowerPoint, reopen it and then open the presentation and play it. No problem.
It also plays fine in the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer.

Have I done anything differently in my test than you are doing?
