Video in powerpoint

I want to embed a MP3 video into powerpoint to do a
presentation for 5 min. outside the side show. Can this
be done or do I need to convert to avi / mpeg format.

Videos are never embedded, nor are MP3's, which are audio files. Do you
really mean MP3? If you want to embed an audio MP3 you'll need to convert
it to a WAV, since WAV's are the only media files that are embedded.
However, expect the size to increase by a factor of 10.
