Anyone know of a good application for use in Linux which is similar to
VirtualDub (for Windows), mainly small, easy to install, does not consume
vast system resources, and works.

Using on a P3.

I don't do video editing so, I don't know what virtual dub does.
However, there's a fair amount of *nix people who use GIMP-GAP, a
plug-in for GIMP which allows for video editing.

Sample tutorial: http://carol.gimp.org/gimp2/animation/gap/move_path/

If/when you do find something that fits the bill, please let us know!

Hi..

I run an open source portal - and I have the following video editing
application for linux listed: http://www.osalt.com/avidemux

Take a look at it. I have not yet had the time try it out myself.

I hope this may help you.

The only good video editor for linux I have used is payware - the
Mainconcept editor. It is also the only one I managed to install on my
linux (Kanotix) installation. I have now changed to Mepis and nothing
seems to install but that is almost certainly my lack of linux knowledge.
There does not seem to be much free stuff for Debian installations.
One free editor I have tried is LiVES but only running off the Dynebolic
live CD. This was painfully slow to use and would often hang while
rendering but might be worth a try.

A good list of linux video stuff can be found here.

Another possibility is trying to run VirtualDub under WINE - if you can get
WINE to install / work :(

FWIW they seem to have updated WINE. I had no problems getting Agent
to install in it (in Suse 10.0)
