Video Compression

Hi! I am making dvd's of our home movies. I am wondering how a person compresses the video to get more than 1 hour on the dvd. Recently I have been watching tv series dvd's and they have 5 - 7 episodes on the dvd at 30 minutes or more per episode. So somehow there has to be a way to compress the video. I am using Movie Maker 2 and Sonic Suite for burning

DVD is just standard MPEG2 compression. i dont know of more than one way to
compress it. a DVD hold several hours of video. i dont know what you're
doing to make it hold just 1.

After you have edited and created a file with the DVD format, you can use
this program http://www.dvdshrink.info/index.php to "shrink" it down to fit
on a DVD disk. It is likely one of the best free video tools on the
internet. Pretty easy to use. Good luck.

AFAIK, sonic's encoding isn't particularly efficient. you could use TMPGENC
or similar...

Where would I find TMPGENC? Is it in some other
software? Or is it a stand alone program?
