I bought a Gforce video card and it says to uninstall the old one. The old
one is on the motherboard. How do I uninstall that one?
 
You dont....you enter the BIOS and turn it off or allocate no memory for it.
In the manual that originally came with your system should be detailed
instructions on how to enter your BIOS as well as how to turn the onboard
video off.On some systems its enough to uninstall the drivers,shut
down,install the new card,restart and load the new video drivers.

You probably should uninstall the *drivers* for the onboard graphics, if
they are listed in the "add or remove programs" control panel.

Some mainboards have an option to disable the onboard graphics controller in
the BIOS settings. (It's not universal. If you posted what mainboard you
have, someone may be able to offer detailed advice.) Other mainboards only
do it automatically.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
 
Enter the BIOS(Check your motherboard manual)and disable the on board
video,safe the settings and restart.

I have entered BIOS and there is no area that will allow me to select disable
or enable any type of video. Video Config only allows me to change from PCI
to AGP???
 
Go to the web site for the maker of the system, click the support link. If there are FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions), see if the answer for disabling the onboard video is there.
Also, carefully read through the documentation that came with your system. Perhaps the
Video Config is not the place in the BIOS where you disable the Onboard video, only
configure it. Some systems do not have the disable option in the BIOS, with those systems
you right click the entry for your display adapter after clicking the + to the left in
device manager, then left click DISABLE, shut down your system. With the system powered
off, physically install the new display adapter, then boot your system and install the
drivers for the new display adapter...

In bios, usually advanced settings>onboard periphiels or such, there is a
setting to disable the onboard video.
Every motherboard maker does it differently; even the same makers do it
different on different boards.
Poke around in all corners of BIOS, but don't change anything unless you're
sure...
if you set it to initialize AGP first, then add an AGP card, it should
work...you could then use the onboard video for a second monitor if desired.
 
You don't....you disable the video chip in your BIOS settings....or the
video PCI or AGP card will override the onboard video....check the
motherboard manual on disabling the onboard video.
 
same thing here - hp pavilion a305w - but now in a bigger pickle
appearently I disabled the video card in windows
the monitor out on the board is no good (broke off) is no longer there, but
everything else works fine just needed a video card
got the card hooked it up everything is fine except for the onboard video
still running tried to disable the on board, Now no display after the windows
with the little blue bar screen. Would anyone know what to do now

did you check the BIOS for an option to disable it ?
