This has happenned with three different video cards that I have installed.
All have had the latest drivers. Nvidia GEForce 5200
Rage 128 and GeForce 440mx. They are all AGP. They work for a few days and
then they stop. I reinstall the drivers and they
work again. Cycle continues. Could it be the slot or motherboaard? Please
help.

Have you tried reinstalling Windows? If you have, and your problem
continues, I would think motherboard, but it sounds more to me like a
Windows issue.

One way to check is to try to get your hands on a PCI version and try it
out. I had a couple of AGP cards and had similar problems and got a Radeon
PCI and have had no problems. Do you have any on board video that you have
not turned off in the BIOS?

Actually, it doesn't sound like Windows to me. It sounds like a hardware
issue and that something is shorting out the AGP bus. The easiest thing
for you would be to take the computer to a good local shop (not a
CompUSA or BestBuy type) and have them test everything thoroughly.

I do not have any on board video . I try and get a pci card to try out. .
Someone also suggested for me to turn off the prefetching which can
cause error 10 problems in xp. If it is the AGP slot , does this mean a new
motherboard or can they be fixed? Thanks.

Look, I don't know what you want to use your computer to do, but if you
want to play 3D games you'll need an AGP video card. You won't want a
PCI card. If you only use the computer for 2D apps like word processing
and email, then a PCI video card will be fine. If the motherboard is
bad, you'll have to replace it.
