Video card and XP Pro problem

My comp has had a brain seizure (after a LOMAC crash, of all bloody things), forcing me to repair the installation. Most things are running now, except for 1 issue.

There is no video adapter displayed in the hardware manger!! It's using a VGA save device (WTF is that?) No matter what I do, I cannot get it to recgonize my video card. In fact, no video device is even listed in the hardware manager; the VGA save device only shows up when I access dispaly properties. And because my comp says it has no video card, I can't install the monitor drivers either. Yet I'm running at 1280x1024 resoultion on WinXP Pro as I type this. Any ideas?

SPECS
Athlon XP1800+ @2400
512 MB DDR 333 PC2700 RAM
GeForce FX 5600 128 m

Go to the following link and download and install the
nVidia driver from there.....

Sorry, I should have mentioned I've done that. No effect. The installation package opens and runs, but at such a fast pace I'm sure nothing is being installed. I've tried d/l'ing from other mirrors, too--same thing.

Do you know if you have an AGP filter install and if so
if it's working properly? If you go into Device Manager
under System Devices there should be a 'Processor to AGP
Controller' If you do not see this or if it's ! out you
should download the latest AGP filter chipset driver.
Below are links to common AMD motherboard AGP Filter
Drivers.
