You could start with some basic things like-
Besides the essential windows processes and ur firewall and antivirus
u cud uncheck things from ur startup list- Start> Run> MS Config. Her
is a list u can use to decide what to keep.

If shez been downloading a lot of stuff, perhaps time to clean the HDD
disk clean up and defragment as it will speed up stuff. Needless to sa
scan for spyware.

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit
Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

What is your CPU processor speed? Right click on your My
Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get
this information and the amount of RAM memory.

How large is your hard disk and how much free disk space? In
Windows Explorer right click on your C drive and select
Properties.

Hope this helps.
