happened to my outlook (express 6) this am.

Computer is on line at all times (DSL) - firewalled and Norton and windoz
virus things running.

Running XP - sp2 - Great until this am.

started the news reader (outlook) - machine "froze"
and appeared that outlook was not starting....
waited about 3-5 min or so.... still "froze"
- hit the restart button.... (not too hard tho)...

computer restarted OK... opened M$office Outlook for e-mail and then started
the newser thing outlook 6.0).... this time we started up great - opened up
nice and when I looked at the "subscribed to folders" - there were about 40
or more NEW subscribed folders.... (most were not family related)....

shut down - restarted in safe mode - no internet hookup - - -ran ad-aware
and spy bot - Norton and windoz in safe mode.... nada - was cleanest and
pure ????

Something IS not ok - Any ideas please?

Thanks in advance - john b - Wisconsin Cheesehead....

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=InternetExplorer
to get to the Internet Explorer groups, then click the plus sign next to
your version of IE to see the link to the Outlook Express group for that
version number. Good luck!

1) Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup. Outlook and Outlook Express are two
different products.
2) Remove the integration of Norton with your mail client. It causes more
problems than it solves.

Could you restate the problem now? It sounds like you got things worked out
other than finding yourself mysteriously subscribed to adult newsgroups in
OE. I'd say keep them. ;)

Some of them WERE interesting to say the least - and that's what the SO
would have said - and not in the least tho..... Delete was my friend for
that day.

BTW - I "cleaned" and "recleaned" and cleaned again..... Spy bot and
ad-aware and micro$oft and Norton and ????? Got some buggers off and appears
to be well now....

Still would like to know just what happened..... And what did it... Some of
the (non adult) sites WERE those that I had visited in the past????? Go
figgure ??

Have fun ya-all and practice safe computing..

Spybot will detect dumb things like cookies, but Norton usually only detects
actual viruses that cause harm, so if Norton was giving you a warning then a
virus it could be... and dumb are you for getting one. ;)
